The 2019 Taranaki Alpine Club Open Climb takes place next weekend.
On Saturday, February 16, the Taranaki Alpine Club will take up to 200 members of the public to the summit of Mt Taranaki and back.
In case of bad weather, Sunday, February 17 is held in reserve as the only postponement date.
The ascent and descent takes all day, with participants starting at 5.15am from the Stratford Plateau car park.
As well as the 200 members of the public there will be about 60 experienced club members participating on the day, says veteran mountain guide Ian McAlpine.
Ian says with hot weather predicted, climbers will need to take plenty of water on the day.
While bookings for the event are now closed, people can register for the 2020 climb on the Alpine club's website: www.taranakialpineclub.co.nz/openclimb
