For 40 years Lynn Hewes has dedicated her time to volunteering at the Stratford Salvation Army stores.
"I needed to do something during school and kindergarten hours. Salvation Army was it," Lynn says.
Her favourite thing about volunteering is the people.
"I enjoy meeting the people. I am now serving the third generation which is amazing. The people are marvellous, and I love it. The customers become family. I have little kids calling me nana - I don't mind at all. I find it amazing."
Lieutenant Simon Montgomery, Corps Officer at the Central Taranaki Corps, says Lynn's volunteer work is valued.
"Lynn is a committed and valued member of our team at the Family Store and has been for a long time. She is an asset to our store, church, and community. I want to publicly thank Lynn for her service and I pray she will continue to be blessed by working at the store."
Over her 40 years of volunteering Lynn has seen some weird things donated.
"We have had a medical skeleton named Herbie and voodoo dolls. But the coolest thing is the wedding dresses that have been donated. There have been some gorgeous dresses. They were certain to have made a girl's day," Lynn says.
