Manganui ski field is one of the smallest, and cheapest, ski fields in New Zealand, but it was also the first to open for the ski season, with a few hundred skiers and snowboarders there on Thursday last week when it opened this season.

Alan Jamieson, owner operator of Taranaki Ski Hire says the shop was open for business from Thursday and enjoyed steady trade over the long weekend.

"Friday and Saturday were actually some of the best days the business has had and the snow on the mountain was fantastic." He said people should make the most of the good snow days the mountain had.

"More people should have pulled a sickie from work on Thursday really. You've got to go when you can and when the snow is good!"
