"We don't need the funds for anything in the group, but any one of us might need the cardiac unit so it seemed a good idea!" Sheila Masters says funds from the plant auction held by the Taranaki Rhododendron Group next week will go to the "We Heart Taranaki" appeal which is raising money to purchase a new angiography machine and suite in Taranaki.
Sheila and fellow group member Neville Cleland are looking forward to the auction, which they say will have lots of great items going under the hammer on the day. "Lots of perennials potted up from members gardens, and one of the rhododendrons in the auction is 'Lady Matthews,' a hybrid bred by the late Keith Adams, a well known New Plymouth nurseryman," says Sheila.
There will also be a selection of rhododendrons from Pukeiti she adds as well as some "stunning Himalayan Lily specimens".
Neville says there is also a selection of gardening books available, on a variety of topics from orchids to basic garden maintenance. Another draw card, he adds, is the "choice selection" of clivias from Joy Plants, the nursery run by Terry and Pam Hatch.
"If you are looking for some interesting and different plants for your garden, then come along and add your support to this worthy fundraising cause."
