THIS week the University Games kick off, which is an exciting time for Stratford and Taranaki as it is the first time our great region holds this event. It is also the first time a region with no university has held the event as well.
Stratford will overflow with college students as we host a variety of sporting events over the next four days hockey, squash, volleyball, karate and more.
Our regions slogan 'Like no Other' is certainly proving popular, with a vast amount of concerts, competitions and sporting events being held in our beautiful region.
Currently, the local council is in consultation with the public about its current Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP), which also focus on how our town should look and feel. What image do we want to live in and have our children grow up in. The current LTCCP has some very serious issues which could cost a lot of money and if the public don't speak up on what they want it could make it difficult for council to decide. Do we want a new swimming pool? Should we start working on forestry roads? Why do we need to spend millions of dollars on rasing our drinking water standard? Have your say and share your thoughts. We welcome any letters to the Editor about any council or town issues.

A Thought For Today
Poetry, indeed, cannot be translated; and, therefore, it is the poets that preserve the languages; for we would not be at the trouble to learn a language if we could have all that is written in it just as well in a translation. But as the beauties of poetry cannot be preserved in any language except that in which it was originally written, we learn the language.
-Samuel Johnson, lexicographer (1709-1784)
