A fun day at the country races

The Interislander Summer Festival is galloping into town again on December 31 and guarantees grassroots racing action, live music and all-day kids entertainment, making it the perfect family day out.

A firm Kiwi favourite, the 2016/2017 summer series boasts 36 events at holiday hotspots, from Ruakaka in the north, to Waikouaiti in the south and Stratford gets the New Year's Eve date.

Stratford Racing Club spokesperson John Gray says the annual festival keeps growing in popularity.

"The Interislander Summer Festival has carved out a loyal following in Stratford over the past 11 years, and we're gearing up for another successful event. A day at the races is one of our great Kiwi summertime traditions and the festival offers a wonderful chance to experience the fun and excitement of country races. Whether you're a first-time punter, a young family or a group of friends looking for a fun day in the sun, the Interislander Summer Festival caters to everyone. So gather up your friends and family, whip out your picnic blanket and your jandals, and prepare to relax while soaking up the summer sun."

The Festival features a full day of fantastic entertainment that's affordable for the whole family and free for children under 18 years.

Kids will be spoilt for choice with the More FM Kids Go Racing area providing free activities for under 12s. Competitions, activities and goodie bags will keep the little ones entertained while Mum and Dad enjoy the races, live music and the punters club. There will be spot prizes on offer and a $500 Interislander travel voucher up for grabs for some lucky punter as well.

John says it is sure to be a great day with the racing including the 125 year Jubilee Fritz Reuter Immigrants Stratford Cup worth $40,000 this year as well as the inaugural running of the Offshore Plumbing Services Barry Holland Plate.

John says the club is currently celebrating 125 years of racing at the club and they would love to see a large crowd there on New Year's Eve.

"They can enjoy the event at one of the most picturesque tracks in the country".
