Kiwi sailor Andrew Maloney is our latest world champion.
Maloney won the Laser Radial world championships youth male division which ended off Takapuna over the weekend.
Another Kiwi Cushla Hume-Merry narrowly missed out on the youth female division title on count-back.
This event, which was sailed over sixdays and followed on from the Olympic class women's Laser Radial World Championship the previous week, included three divisions - men's, youth male and youth female.
With 85 competitors in the youth male fleet - the biggest of the three divisions - Maloney - led from start to finish and ended seven points clear of his nearest rival. Silver went to Martin Evans of Great Britain, and bronze to Maarten Moerman of the Netherlands.
New Zealander James Sandall was 4th in the men's championship won by Michael Leigh of Canada, ranked 6th in the Olympic class Laser. Brad Funk of the US was second.
