Sari Multala of Finland and Evi Van Acker of Belgium share the early lead at the women's Laser Radial world championships which started yesterday off Takapuna.
The first day of racing on Saturday was abandoned after high winds failed to appear but the sailors enjoyed a 20-knot southwesterly yesterday.
Racing in the Blue fleet, Van Acker showed she is back in top form after suffering from a virus with a stunning start to the regatta. She won her first race after a fast start but made a few errors in the second, which saw her fighting back from seventh to take second.
Multala, racing in the yellow fleet, finished second in her first race and then won the second.
Sarah Blanck of Australia and Paige Railey of the United States also began strongly and share third place, just two points behind the leaders.
Jo Aleh, 11th overall, is the best placed of the New Zealand contingent with two seventh placings despite suffering a capsize in a race.
