The Mini 6.5m NZL403 of Chris Sayer and Rob Neeley was in first place overall last night in Mangonui at the end of the 160-nautical mile first leg of the Sir Peter Blake Memorial Round the North Island Two Handed Race.
Second overall after the Auckland-Mangonui run was the 12.2m Blakewell-White
design Time To Burn, sailed by Rob Bassett and Brian Jones, and the Elliott 10.6m Carpe Diem of Mark Edwards and Robin Allan was lying third.
First over the line into Mangonui at 9.16 am yesterday after sailing from Auckland at 2pm the day before was the 14m Elliott, Maverick II, skippered by Brian Petersen with crewman Greg Elliott.
More than an hour behind was Systems Thunder, the 16m Takei design, with Brian Ward and Tony Trubuhovic, followed by Hydroflow, and Ron Brittain and Brett Eagle.
The 20-strong fleet are scheduled to start the second leg to Wellington about 2 pm today.
