New Zealand scored a one-two in the 420 world yachting championships off the Spanish coast today (NZ time).
Carl Evans and Peter Burling won the gold medal and a second New Zealand crew, Simon Cooke and Scott Illingworth, won the silver, with both achieving the top placings with a raceto spare.
The two crews dominated the leaderboard right through the championship at Gran Canaria, with Evans and Burling being the clear points leaders all week.
They went into the final day's racing with a big margin of 24 points.
Another New Zealand crew, Michael Langley and Riley Dean, were 15th before the final race.
Hannah Mills and Peggy Webster of Britain won the women's championship after steadily working their way up the rankings all week.
The highlight in the women's event on the final day came when New Zealand's Shelley Hesson and Bianca Barbarich-Backer won the final race.
They were the top New Zealand crew, finishing 10th in the regatta. They will go on to represent New Zealand in the women's 470 event at the Pre-Olympics in China this month.
