Winning the world match racing tour is certain to open many doors for Adam Minoprio, but a week on from being crowned world champion, the young Kiwi sailor remains undecided on just which door he'll walk through.
Minoprio became only the fourth New Zealander behind yachting legends Chris Dixon, RussellCoutts and Dean Barker to win the world championship after his BlackMatch Racing team won the final round of the tour in Malaysia.
Many are predicting the 24-year-old, like the trio before him, could go on to be one of the superstars in the sport.
Minoprio is quick to deflect such suggestions and says he hopes to enjoy a restful summer break before plotting his future course.
He is coaching in the Canary Islands but plans to return to Auckland next week.
"It's been two years since I last had any decent time in New Zealand so I'm really looking forward to it."
Minoprio said in that time he would be speaking to his BlackMatch crew - Tom Powrie, David Swete, Nick Blackman and Dan McLean - to discuss the possibility of returning to the tour next year to defend their title.
"I'm guessing right now that we'll be back to defend our title, but we still haven't really discussed as a team what our best options are moving forward as a team."
The talented skipper said he still had plenty of other goals he'd like to achieve in the sport, including sailing with an America's Cup syndicate.
But like many other top sailors around the world, Minoprio's America's Cup dreams are on hold for now, while the long-running battle between Alinghi and BMW Oracle winds its way through the New York courts.
"Who knows what's happening with the America's Cup? We'd definitely like to get involved with it, but obviously things are a little up in the air with that at the moment. We'd also like to get involved with the Volvo Ocean Race, the TP52 circuit and there's a few other circuits in the Mediterranean that are high-quality circuits."
