New Zealand skipper Adam Minoprio has added yachting's Monsoon Cup to his world matchracing title.
Minoprio beat British multiple Olympic gold medallist Ben Ainslie 3-0 in the Cup final in Malaysia yesterday, one day after being crowned world champion.
His latest success earned Minoprio and his crew - TomPowrie, David Swete, Nick Blackman and Dan McLean - a cheque worth US$105,000 ($146,580).
It capped a remarkable week for Minoprio, who became the fourth New Zealander to win the world title following Chris Dickson, Russell Coutts and Dean Barker.
"It's been a very intense event for us," Minoprio said after winning the Cup final.
"We came in thinking that if we focused on winning the Monsoon Cup, the world matchracing championship result would look after its self.
"We just scraped into the quarterfinals, but it went pretty well after that.
"We were always keen to meet Ben and his great crew in the final. We've done it twice before in Bermuda. We beat them to win the final of the Bermuda Gold Cup in 2008 and they beat us in the same event in 2009."
