Yachting: Last boat finishes Sydney Hobart

HOBART - After nearly eight days at sea, Gillawa today became the last yacht to cross the Sydney Hobart yacht race finish line.

At about 7.30am (local time) the Cavalier 975 skippered by David Kent, of Canberra, officially finished 59th in the 60th Sydney Hobart in a time of seven days, 18 hours, 23 minutes and 19 seconds.

Gillawa is the final yacht to finish out of the original 116 starters.

In all, 57 boats retired from the Sydney Hobart due to a combination of continuous strong to gale force head winds and rough seas.
