New Zealand sailors showed their appreciation for the boisterous conditions prevalent at the world yachting championships in Portugal today.
Gusting, shifty offshore winds of 20 to 25 knots were to their liking as the championships continued at Cascais.
The New Zealanders turned in a series of solid results,headlined by defending Star champions Hamish Pepper and Carl Williams posting a seventh and a first in their two races.
They helped the pair improve from ninth to sixth overall.
In the Laser, Andrew Murdoch lifted his performance to finish third and first to sit seventh overall, while compatriot Michael Bullot is 10th.
Sharon Ferris and her crew, Raylor Smeal and Shandy Buckley, made an impressive start in the Yngling to hold third place in the women's keelboat class.
Jo Aleh is now the best placed of the four New Zealand representatives in the 109-strong Laser Radial fleet.
She finished third and eighth today to leap up the overall standings from 68th to 31st.
In the Finn class, Dan Slater finished 11th and 22nd, suffering a capsize in the latter race after sitting third at one stage.
