New Zealand crews are first and second overall after the fourth day of the Star World Championships in San Francisco.
Former Team New Zealand tactician Hamish Pepper and Oracle sailor Carl Williams won yesterday's race, leading the star-studded fleet around each mark. They are first overall.
Fellow New Zealanders RohanLord and Miles Addy finished 11th but still moved up the ladder to second overall. There are just two more races scheduled, one today and one tomorrow.
Yesterday's conditions proved challenging with gray skies, flat water, rain and light air.
The start was delayed after the St Francis Yacht Club race committee was forced to move the marks to adjust to the shifts. The breeze never reached more than 8 knots with lows of 3-5 knots during racing.
After a general recall on the first attempt, many teams were over early in the second start and subsequently penalised. The 74-boat fleet is one of the richest in talent in recent times. Among the skippers and crew, there are 20 Star world champions and nine Olympic gold medals.
