Clear skies and light winds are providing leisurely sailing for yachties enjoying the New Zealand Herald Auckland Anniversary Regatta.
A short time ago, Coastguard duty officer Blair McDonnell said a 10 knot easterly breeze was making for "very pleasant sailing". The forecast is for 10-15 knot easterlies.
In addition to yacht racing
on the Waitemata and Manukau harbours, there are shore-based events around the city until 4 pm today.
They include a car expo and games at Okahu Domain and arts and crafts at Selwyn Reserve, Mission Bay, sausage sizzles and fun for children on Kiwi Esplanade at Mangere Bridge.
The New Zealand Herald Foundation is sponsoring lunch for 230 guests aboard HMNZS Te Mana at anchor off North Head to raise funds for Surf Lifesaving Northern Region and Auckland Volunteer Coastguard.
