Yachting: Davis sailing strongly

New Zealand's Rod Davis yesterday sailed into the semifinals of the Soling match-racing world championship in Melbourne, after having a four-win three-loss record in the third round qualifying.

Davis and his crew of Don Cowie and Alan Smith today meet Sweden's Hans Waller while top qualifier Netherlands' Roy Heiner races against American Jeff Madrigali.

In reaching the semi-finals, Davis also ensured New Zealand qualified for the class at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
