Yachting: Baird blows them away

Ed Baird won round one of Alinghi's defender trials in Dubai.

Baird and the syndicate's other helmsman Peter Holmberg won three races each in the regatta, which was reduced by a day after light winds prevented any racing on day three.

To break the tie, the race committee reverted to the boat that won the last race, which was Baird.

The trials will determine the helmsman and makeup of Alinghi's afterguard for the final America's Cup pre-regatta in April.

Round two of the trials take place from February 16-19.
