Five New Zealand yachties were in medal races in the pre-Olympic regatta in Qingdao last night.
New Zealand's best prospects were in the men's RS:X class, where Tom Ashley was lying second, and in the Star, where Hamish Pepper and Carl Williams were third.
With double-points
up for grabs in the medal race there is little room for error.
Other Kiwis competing last night were Dan Slater, who was sitting in seventh place in the Finn, Barbara Kendall, who was eighth in the women's RS:X and Carl Evans and Peter Burling, who were ninth in the men's 470 fleet.
The medal races in the Laser Radial and Laser fleets will be sailed today.
