Watch: Baseball player charges mound and fights pitcher

Baltimore Orioles infielder Manny Machado was ejected in the 5th inning of his team's 9-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

After being hit by a pitch from Royals' Yordano Ventura, Machado took exception and charged the mound, punching Ventura and wrestling him to the ground.

The pair had exchanged words earlier, in the second inning of play after Machado hit a fly out:

Yordano Ventura was 96-98 most of the night with his fastball. The single hardest pitch he threw was the one that hit Manny Machado: 99 mph.

Machado was the only player ejected as no one else got involved in the brawl.

Directly after, Machado's Orioles hit back-to-back home runs.

1996: Martinez v Williams

This one took place in 1996, where Montreal Expos pitcher Pedro Martinez charged the mound after getting thrown at by Phillies pitcher Mike Williams. The pitch from Williams came after Martinez hit Phillies player Gregg Jefferies causing him to leave the game earlier:

1993: Ryan v Ventura

In this classic, Texas Rangers pitcher Nolan Ryan hits White Sox third baseman Robin Ventura. Ventura then charges the mound and is promptly placed in a headlock by 46-year-old Ryan (20 years his senior), taking a few big shots to the head before the benches joined in.

2008: Crisp v Shields

This one happened in 2008 after Boston Red Sox outfielder Coco Crisp didn't like a pitch that was way inside, igniting a wild brawl:

2009: Youkilis v Porcello

In another Fenway fight, Red Sox' Kevin Youkilis charged the mound after being hit by a pitch and tried to fight opposing Detroit Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello, causing the benches to clear once again:
