UFC: Conor McGregor apologises and hints that 'retirement' is over in cryptic tweet

Conor McGregor's supposed retirement appears to be over already.

Two weeks ago, the former UFC champ shocked the MMA world by announcing that he would be retiring from the sport.

"Hey guys quick announcement, I've decided to retire from the sport formally known as "Mixed Martial Art" today," McGregor tweeted.

"I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition. I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!"

However, the Irishman hinted today that his retirement may be a bluff, as many suspected.

"I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds," he tweeted.

"All faiths challenge us to be our best selves. It is one world and one for all.

The final sentence was what many latched on to - McGregor's last "retirement" in 2016 only lasted a few days - despite the tweet being what appears to be an apology for now deleted tweet that sparked controversy.

This week, McGregor unleashed his latest jab at rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, this time targeting his wife which many labelled as "racist".

"You wife is a towel, mate," McGregor tweeted alongside a picture of Nurmagomedov and his better half who was wearing a religous garb.

Nurmagomedov, who is a muslim, reportedly got married in 2013 and McGregor was poking fun at his wife's look on their wedding day when she was covered by a veil.

A few fans took to Twitter to slam McGregor's "racist" insult.

McGregor's latest tweet could be seen as an apology, but also suggests that he wants a rematch with the UFC lightweight champion who he lost to by submission last year.
