In his debut outing in the UFC octagon, Ulberg fell to a second-round TKO loss to Nigerian Kennedy Nzechukwu, dominating the first round before becoming fatigued and being stopped in the second.
He came away from that bout with a US$50,000 ($83,300) fight of the night bonus and a lot of lessons after joining the UFC with limited mixed martial arts experience.
Ulberg has not lost a fight since.
On a nine-fight winning streak, Ulberg has picked up five wins by knockout, three by decision and one by submission, showing an ever-developing skillset on his way to the second-longest winning streak in the division’s history, behind former long-time division champion Jon Jones’ 13 wins in a row.
His current streak includes victories over former title challengers Dominick Reyes (first-round knockout) and Volkan Oezdemir (decision), and former champion Jan Blachowicz (decision).
Against Prochazka, Ulberg will face his greatest test yet.
The Czech athlete has made a name for himself with his live by the sword, die by the sword approach. In 38 professional MMA bouts, Prochazka has 32 wins and only one of those by decision. Only two of his 38 bouts have gone to the scorecards.
In Ulberg’s 14-bout professional MMA career, only four of his bouts have gone the distance.
The bout will headline the pay-per-view card in Miami and was confirmed by UFC boss Dana White this afternoon.
It will be one of two title fights on the card.
In the co-main event, flyweight champion Joshua Van will be fighting in his first defence, taking on Tatsuro Taira.
