Top seeds on court at NZ Tennis Champs

The top seeds will take to the court on day two of the Pascoes NZ Tennis Champs after day one featured limited upsets in blustery conditions at the Albany Tennis Park.

In his first match top seed Wellingtons Finn Tearney will face Auckland teenager Connor Williamson and second seed Ben McLachlan (Queenstown) will play Trent Massam (Hutt Valley).

The match of the round looks to be third seed Olly Sadler from Wellington who recently gained his first ATP world ranking points up against national 18s finalist Finn Reynolds from the Hawkes Bay.

Artem Sitak also has a tough first up clash as he has drawn new 18s national champion Ajeet Rai (Taranaki) who put away the tall James Watt (South Canterbury) in straight sets.

Fifth seed Marcus Daniell won his first round match in straights sets over Mitchell Sizemore (Otago) and will play Zach Whaanga (Hutt Valley) while seventh seed Wesley Whitehouse will take on former Kiwi Davis Cup player now tour coach on the WTA circuit Sebastian Lavie.

In womens singles it will be the first time for Kiwi-Canadian Erin Routliffe on the court for a match in New Zealand. The top ranked player who stands at 1.88m will take on Lara Mcnaughten (North Harbour).

Second seed Jo Carswell plays junior Emilia Price from Winton. Third seed Jade Lewis faces North Harbour teens Elys Ventura and Paige Hourigan the fourth seed from Whanganui who is currently on a scholarship at Georgia Tech in the United States plays Aucklands Holly Stewart.

Mens singles matches are set to play from 10am at the Albany Tennis Park followed by womens second round singles and mens and womens doubles.

Top seeds in the mens doubles feature the world No.50 Marcus Daniell and No.62 Artem Sitak with Ben Mclachlan who is ranked 193 in the world teaming with Finn Tearney as the second mens seeds.

The womens top doubles pairings are Routliffe and Hourigan followed by Leela Beattie and Rosie Cheng.

The tournament continues until Saturday 17 December with the semis and finals held at the ASB Tennis Arena. The mens singles winner gains a wildcard into the ASB Classic singles main draw and womens singles winner into the ASB Classic qualifying tournament.
