Tennis: Top start for NZ David Cup side

Rubin Statham got New Zealand off to a speedy start in the Asia/Oceania Group 2 Davis Cup tie against Malaysia indoors at the Albany Tennis Park in Auckland.

Statham defeated Malaysian No 2 Razlan Rawi 6-1 6-1 6-0 in just one hour and 20 minutes. The unranked Malaysian had no answer to Statham's power and was completely out of his depth against the 425th ranked Kiwi.

New Zealand's No 2, Dan King-Turner - ranked at 453 - has a tougher ask against Malaysian No 1 Yew Ming Si, who has previously been ranked on the ATP Tour.
