Tennis: Statham in quarterfinals

New Zealand Davis Cup team member Rubin Statham has won his way into the quarterfinals at the US$10,000 Futures in Tokyo.

He won his second round match against eighth seed Tetsuya Chaen of Japan 6-4, 6-0 to set up a clash with second seed Ti Chen of Taipei in the quarters.

Qualifier Adam Thompson was to play Yu Xin-Yuan of China in the second round main draw of singles last night.

Meanwhile Marina Erakovic has lost her first round singles at the US$25,000 tournament at Hammond, Louisiana, to American Julie Ditty.
