Petra Kvitova is £1.1m better off this morning after becoming the youngest Wimbledon ladies' champion since Maria Sharapova in 2004.
It was a first Wimbledon final for Sharapova since she won the tournament at just 17 years old. Kvitova was cheered on by some Czech mates, 1998 winner Jana Novotna
and Maria Navratilova, and powered through to her maiden Grand Slam title.
Sharapova wasn't at her sharpest - struggling with her serve - but the Czech announced her arrival on the highest stage with a clinical display of power hitting. She won 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 25 minutes
Kveta Peschke provided more Czech joy at Wimbledon by claiming the women's doubles title with Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik. They beat Sam Stosur and Sabine Lisicki, who had overcome Marina Erakovic and Thai veteran Tamarine Tanasugarn just three hours earlier. That match had run into day twelve, with Stosur and Lisicki winning the third set 8-6.
Mike and Bob Bryan made doubles history against Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau, winning their eleventh Grand Slam title. The brothers have matched the Woodies combination of Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in Slam victories. This was their second Wimbledon title - remarkable, considering they have been the No 1 doubles pairing for 250 weeks.
