They've bounced back to beat the Croatian American combination 7-6 6-4 in 1 hr32 to reach the second round in Miami.
" It's always nice to get a win against a team who beat us pretty handsomely the week before. So I felt like we made some good adjustments and took care of our serve today and gave ourselves some good opportunities on return games. It will be good to have a day off tomorrow to get ready for our next match. Venus said.
It was a tight first set featuring no breaks of serve although Venus and Klaasen created three break point chances and only faced one break point against their serve.
The Kiwi South African combination broke serve to lead 2-0 in the second set but then dropped serve twice as Ram and Dodig won the next four games. However Venus and Klaasen broke back to level at 4-4 and then broke again to win the match.
Venus and Klaasen will face giant serving American John Isner and his left handed compatriot Donald Young in the second round. Young was on the other side of the net when Venus and Ryan Harrison won the French Open final last year.
