Tennis: Marcus Daniell through to quarter-finals at Indian Wells

Inform Kiwi doubles player Marcus Daniell and Argentine partner Diego Schwartzman have scored another big win at the prestigious BNP Paribas Open in California.

Daniell and Schwartzman are through to the quarter finals at the Indian Wells Masters after a 6-4, 6-2 win in 1hr 3 minutes over the French pair of Adrian Mannarino and Fabrice Martin.

But Michael Venus has crashed out in the second round with his South African partner Raven Klaasen. The pair have been outclassed by American Rajeev Ram and Croatian Ivan Dodig 6-2 6-2 in 1 hr. Venus and Klaasen never got into the match and dropped serve three times in the first set and twice in the second. They will now look to regroup for the Miami Masters next week.

Daniell and Schwartzman had never played together before the tournament but they have quickly gelled as a combination with the world number 17 in singles proving he's a handy doubles player.

Martin and Mannarino had knocked out the second seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers in the first round and early on it looked as though the Kiwi and Argentine would have their work cut out.

Daniell was broken in his first service game with a double fault not helping at 40-30 after Daniell and Schwartzman had made the perfect start breaking Martin in the opening game.

Games then went with serve until the 9th game when Martin was broken a second time and this time Daniell made no mistake on serve, closing it out 6-4 in 32 minutes. Daniell and Schwartzman took control at the start of the second set by breaking Mannarino to love in his opening service game and they never looked back. After Daniell held serve Martin was broken for the third time in the match with Daniell and Schwartzman racing through it 6-2 in 31 minutes.

By reaching the quarter finals Daniell is guaranteed 180 ranking points and a share of $56,000 US dollars and he will go close to surpassing his career high Emirates ATP doubles ranking of 34. They could next face the most successful doubles team in ATP tennis history, the Bryan twins Bob and Mike who play Spaniards Pablo Carreno Busta and David Marrero tomorrow.

Regardless how far Daniell progresses in Indian Wells, he intends teaming up with his regular British partner Dominic Inglot for next week's Miami Masters.
