Kiwi Marcus Daniell and his Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof have suffered a tough loss in the semi finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg this morning.
They have been beaten 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 by the world's number one ranked team, Australian Open champions Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic.
Danielland Koolhof dominated for much of the 1 hr 31 minute encounter and won 63 points to their opponents 55.
But the Kiwi says Marach and Pavic showed why they are the best team in the world, taking their only break point chance to get back into the match in the second set.
"It's credit to them, they had basically one opportunity to get back into the match and took it and played some clutch points in the end. But it was a good effort from us but at the end of the day it's the win that matters and they showed why they are at the top." Daniell said.
Daniell by reaching the semi finals will move to the cusp of the top 40 again in the rankings. His career high is 34. He and Koolhof head to Kitzbuhel in Austria for an ATP 500 tournament next week.
