New Zealand tennis No 1 Dan King-Turner won through to the second round of a US$100,000 ($140,481) ATP challenger event in Ramat Hasharon, Israel, today.
King-Turner won his first round singles against local player Gilad Ben Zvi, 6-3 6-2. His opponent in the second round will be either fifth seedStefan Koubek of Austria or Russian Evgeni Kirillov.
In the doubles, King-Turner and his Australian partner Samuel Groth beat Israeli pair Lior Dahan and Efi Levi 6-3 6-3 in the first round.
Meanwhile, fellow Davis Cup player Rubin Statham won his first round match at a US$50,000 challenger event in Savannah, United States.
Statham defeated Australian Nicholas Monroe 6-3 6-2 but faces a tough second match against either top seed Taylor Dent of the United States or Australian Joseph Sirianni.
New Zealand Fed Cup players Marina Erakovic and Ellen Barry are playing in a US$50,000 ITF women's event in Fukuoka, Japan this week.
