Kiwi tennis players Marina Erakovic and Michael Venus have scored good doubles wins last night in big tournaments in North America.
Erakovic and Zimbabwean partner, Cara Black, beat second seeds Liezel Huber (USA) and Spaniard Nuria Llagostera Vives in the quarter-finals of the US$795,000 (NZD $1,015,391) WTA Carlsbad tournament inSouthern California in a one hour-40 minute match 6-4 3-6 12-10.
They now have a clash with third seeded American pair, Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears in the semifinals.
Erakovic has a current WTA doubles ranking of 34.
Meanwhile, in Canada, Kiwi Davis Cup player, Venus and American partner, Bradley Klahn have won their quarter-final doubles match at the US$100,000 (NZD $127,722) Vancouver Challenger, beating Clement Reix (France) and Oliver Rochus (Belgium) in the quarter-finals 6-2 6-3 in 51 minutes.
Venus and Klahn beat the same pair in the quarter-finals of last week's tournament also in straight sets. They now face the fourth seeded Israeli pair of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram in the semifinals.
Venus is at a career-high doubles ATP ranking of 140 and entered the Vancouver Challenger with an 12-win one-loss record in doubles in his past four events having won Challenger titles at Winnetka and Binghampton, he was also a finalist at Lexington.
