Tennis: Daniilidou defends ASB Classic title

Defending champion Eleni Daniilidou made it two-in-a-row in the ASB Classic final in Auckland yesterday.

The Greek world No 26 defeated 18-year-old American Ashley Harkleroad in straight sets 6-3 6-2 to retain her title from 2003.

In the doubles final, Mervana Jugic-Salkic and Jelena Kostanic claimed victory in a big upset.

In their first tournament playing together, Jugic-Salkic of Bosnia and Kostanic, from Croatia, beat the world number one pairing of Paola Suarez and Virginia Ruano-Pascual 7-6 3-6 6-1.
