Top seed Guillermo Coria has beaten former champ Sjeng Schalken 6-0, 6-3 at the Heineken Tennis Open in Auckland.
American Robby Ginepri is also through to the second round.
He came back from a set down against Argentina's Agustin Calleri to take the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
And eighth seed
Luis Horna has been ousted 6-3, 6-1 by Olivier Rochus.
Horna created quite a stir as he exited, directing a crude call in Spanish towards a lineswoman who happened to be Mexican.
Others in action today include defending champion Dominik Hrbaty, Rafael Nadal, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Tommy Robredo.
