As if it were ever in doubt, pre tournament favourite Novak Djokovic has comfortably dispatched the world's second best player in straight sets.
It was another blistering start from the Serb after facing break points in the opening game. Djokovic controlled the court with better angles and largely dictated play.
Murray fought hard but lacked enough variety in his game while the Djokovic serve proved the difference. The world number one won more than 60 % of points on his second serve compared to Murray's 35 %. The second set was the key for Murray, he had to win it, but instead blew a 40-love lead at 5-5.
Djokovic has won six Australian Open finals, Murray has lost five, there is a big difference in self belief between the two with Djokovic now having won 11 of their last 12 encounters.
Wobby in the fourth round against Giles Simon, Djokovic as we see time and time again, was able to step it up when it mattered, dropping just one set against the two next best players in the world in the semi final and final.
