Kiwi tennis player makes big final

Queenstown tennis professional Ben McLachlan has this afternoon achieved a significant result in his career. Twenty-five-year-old McLachlan and Australian doubles partner Jarryd Chaplin have won through to the final of the US$1000,000 Monterrey Challenger in Mexico.

McLachlan ranked at a career-high 235 and Chaplin defeated the experienced Colombian pair Alejandro Falla and Eduardo Struvay 2-6 6-3 11-9 to make the final.

The result equals McLachlans best effort in a tournament of this size. In August he made the final of the Aptos Challenger.

It is likely McLachlan will see his ranking break inside the top 200 as a result of his strong showing in the Monterrey tournament.
