Erakovic beaten but others getting ready for title challenges

Marina Erakovic has been beaten in the semifinals at the US$125,000 WTA Taipei Open.

The Kiwi No.1 who entered the tournament with a WTA ranking of 114 was defeated by local player Kai-Chen Chang 6-3 6-2 in just over an hour in the semifinal.

Chang won on the back of her superior serve not conceding a break point in the match and showed great ability on return as well, winning four out five break points on Erakovics serve.

In the tournament Erakovic still managed three solid wins and gained enough points which should improve her ranking by around 10 places.

She now takes part in the Hawaiian Open in Honolulu which features Chinese No.1 Zhang Sihuai and former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki among its top players.

Meanwhile other Kiwi professionals are finishing their short break from the international circuit and preparing for the NZ Tennis Champs December 12-17 with a main draw wildcard into the mens singles at the ASB Classic one of the big prizes.

Two players who missed last year but have confirmed their entry for 2016 are Marcus Daniell and Ben McLachlan.

Daniell is currently ranked 50 in the world in doubles and McLachlan is at 200 in doubles in the latest ATP rankings.
