New Zealand's Mark Nielsen and his Croatian doubles partner Ivo Karlovic came from behind to beat the top seeds at the $51,000 Yokohama World Tennis Gaora Cup being held indoors in Japan.
After losing the first set, Nielsen and Karlovic came back strongly to beat America's Brandon Coupe and Ashley Fisher,
of Australia, 5-7 6-3 6-4 in the second round.
In the quarterfinals Nielsen and Karlovic will play Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee and Kevin Kim, of the United States.
In Mumbai, India, Shelley Stephens was well beaten 1-6 2-6 in the second round of the $51,000 women's event being held there by third seeded German Adriana Barna.
However in the doubles Stephens and partner Scarlett Werner, of Germany, swept into the semifinals when their scheduled quarterfinal opponents withdrew.
