Swimming: Disappointing day for NZ in Rome

A disappointing day for the New Zealand swimmers at the World Championships in Rome.

None of the three Kiwis in action have progressed beyond the heats on day two.

Andrew McMillan was 27th fastest in the 200 metres freestyle event, with a personal best time of 1min 48.30sec. Teammate Michael Jack clocked 1min 49.11sec in the same event, which was the 40th quickest time, an improvement of 27 places on his world ranking.

Nineteen-year-old Daniel Bell was a fingertip outside his Beijing Olympic best, clocking 54.58sec in 100m backstroke. Bell's time was 23rd fastest.

There is a real expectation tomorrow with New Zealand's highest ranked swimmer, Moss Burmester, back in the pool in the heats of his favoured 200 butterfly.
