Swimming New Zealand's director of coaching Clive Rushton is not going to the Olympics.
It appears there has been a coup in the Athens swim team, with several of the swimmers not wanting Rushton with them at the Games.
However, Rushton is downplaying the snub and says it is best for the
swimmers for individual coaches to go.
Christchurch-based Todd Mason will go as a personal coach, along with Jan Cameron, who will head the coaching team, and Thomas Ansorg.
Rushton says they only have three accreditations for Athens and he was always going to be the fourth choice.
He says he understands the confusion but he has never really had a full coaching role within the group.
He says he has only ever taken a coaching role twice at a major meet, at the Manchester Commonwealth Games and in Brisbane at the weekend.
It is unclear at this stage what long-term implications this may have for Rushton in his job as national coach
