Surfing: Christie earns spot on ASP Tour

New Zealand surfer Ricardo Christie has captured a place on the prestigious ASP Tour for next season.

Christie has advanced to the quarter-finals of the World Cup of Surfing qualifying event in Hawaii, enough to see him clinch a place on next year's tour.

Christie progressed in second place from his heat, gaining enough overall points to qualify.
Maz Quinn was the last Kiwi male on tour, back in 2001.
