Strong finish for Kiwi sailors

New Zealand sailors Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie have finished an encouraging sixth overall in their first 470 world championship which ended in Denmark today.

They posted a second placing in the final race to improve two spots overall in a fleet of 57 boats.

The 470 is the women's double-handed dinghy for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Aleh and Powrie, both from Auckland, sailed with consistency to finish in the top 10 in all but two of the 13 races.

Their score card included two race wins during the qualifying rounds and a second today's medal race.

The title was won by Lisa Westerhof and Lobke Berkhout, of the Netherlands.
