Soccer: Ronaldo watches as Real Madrid kick off season

With new signing Ronaldo applauding from the stands, Real Madrid kicked off their Spanish league season today with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Espanyol.

Spanish international Ivan Helguera and substitute Steve McManaman grabbed goals as the Brazilian star striker saw his new team-mates produce a slick second-half display.

Madrid's first three points of the season came hours after Ronaldo was presented by the club following his €45 million ($96 million) move from Inter Milan.
