Two goals by Lomano Lua Lua inspired Newcastle United to a crushing 4-0 victory over West Ham United in their opening English premier league soccer game of the season today.
All four goals came in a rampant second-half display at St James' Park by Bobby Robson's side, who are hoping to
improve on their fourth place of last season.
Democratic Republic of Congo striker Lua Lua put Newcastle on their way to victory with goals after 61 and 72 minutes. Further strikes by Alan Shearer (76) and Peruvian Nolberto Solano (86) completed the rout.
The five other leading title contenders - champions Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Leeds United and Chelsea - have also won their opening games.
