Soccer: Mt Wellington celebrates 50 years

Mt Wellington, arguably the most successful soccer club in New Zealand over the past few decades, will celebrate their first 50 years this month.

The club, while retaining their identity and home base at Bill McKinlay Park, are now part of the new East Auckland national league setup.

Six-time winners of the prized Chatham Cup and the national league, Mt Wellington enjoyed a boom period in the 1970s and 1980s. Many players and coaches from that golden era are expected at the November 29-December 1 celebrations. "
