Organisers have cancelled today's racing in the Louis Vuitton Cup regatta due to high winds.
Racing was called off for the day after the southwesterly wind exceeded an 18 knot threshold before the scheduled midday start.
Rules governing the Louis Vuitton Cup state that racing will not begin if winds are
less than 7 knots, and racing will not commence if winds are in excess of 18 knots for a period of five minutes at any time during the 15 minutes prior to the preparatory signal.
After a race begins it can be abandoned if winds of 23 knots are sustained for five minutes.
But the wind was gusting over 20 knots on the water and the American OneWorld syndicate recorded 33 knot gusts at the top of its mast.
The wind speed was forecast to increase during the afternoon.
Today's matches are now scheduled to take place tmorrow, weather permitting.
When racing resumes Sweden's Victory Challenge will get its first taste of competition, after having a bye yesterday. The second race day will pit the Swedes against the French Le Defi, who had a disappointing first race against the Swiss Alinghi Challenge.
Other races set for day two include Louis Vuitton Cup holders Prada Challenge against Dennis Conner's Stars and Stripes.
The Swiss Alinghi team will race against the American OneWorld crew, and Italian challenger Mascalzone Latino will face Oracle BMW Racing.
The Great Britain team have the bye.
