Blog: The calm before the storm

Well it is a day out from the America's Cup.

It kind of feels like the calm before the storm. The Port is still empty but here is little chance of it being that way tomorrow for race one. There is an almighty send off planned for the boats which should bring the locals along.

It is also the Bonfires of St. John on Saturday which is one of the many fiestas celebrated during the summer . The festival revolves around sun, fire and water - bonfires are lit on the beach and various rituals take place.

The skipper's press conference was held today. With the Auld Mug snuggled in between them on the stage both Dean Barker and Brad Butterworth looked relaxed and happy.

Both teams went out for short sails.

Last night was the America's Cup party which featured Duran Duran. Also there was super model Naomi Campbell and a few other Spanish celebrities.

It was probably the best party of the cup so far - there was plenty to eat, plenty to drink and a seriously snazzy dance floor.

So here we are race one of the America's Cup. We can't wait.
