Olympian Hamish Carter set a pretty high bar for more than 2,000 people who have registered to run interactive tracks around Auckland and Wellington over the next two months.
Carter proved himself to still be one of New Zealand's best, running the 9km track along Auckland's waterfront in 30 minutesand 46 seconds, beating his two competitors.
Rowing bronze medallist Nathan Twaddle came second with a time of 39 minutes and 12 seconds while and swimming champion Moss Burmester rounded out the top three, completing it in 42 minutes and 28 seconds.
The challenge is being organised by sportsdrink Powerade in the lead up to the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games in two months.
Participants can run the Auckland or Wellington courses at any time over the next two months after registering online as an individual or as part of a tea.
Once they've done that, they receive a special RFID interactive wristband which they scan at the start and finish of the course to log their time. More than 2,000 people have registered so far.
As they run, the participants' will be encouraged along names with their names displayed on a giant digital billboard. As well, their times automatically upload to the online leaderboard on Powerade's website.
