Mr Burrows began queueing at about 4am today taking his place in the queue with a small seat, a thermos and biscuits.
"Because of this I'm going to get few hours off of work today," he said.
Chiefs boss Gary Dawson said tickets were likely to sell out this morning given the enormous levels of interest and a queue of fans that continued to grow.
Tickets for online buyers went on sale at 9am today, while booths at the stadium opened at 8am.
Mr Dawson said season ticket holders and sponsors had already bought 12,000 tickets. This left less than 14,000 tickets for the general public.
By just after 10am this morning all tickets had been sold.
The Herald heard a couple of fans walking off with their tickets saying "we are going to sell these for $100 on trademe".
Chiefs fans who missed out on tickets to this Saturday's Super Rugby final in Hamilton now won't have a fan zone to watch the game.
Plans to close Hood St and erect a big screen with entertainment were scuttled this morning when one group of bar and restaurant owners complained they had not been consulted by the city council.
John Lawrenson, who owns about 12 hospitality outlets in Hamilton, said his businesses and eight others suffered financial losses when the street was closed.
However, Jason Macklow of the Phoenix Group, which applied for the closure and was to pay for the big screen, said it was a shame thousands of people coming to the city would now miss out.
