Lions coach Johan Ackermann has named a second string side for Sunday's Super Rugby match against the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.

Ackermann has made 15 changes to rest his first string side ahead of the playoffs.

It opens up the possibility of the New Zealand conference winner securing top spot on the overall log and home advantage for the playoffs.

In the scenario of the Lions losing they would still host a quarter-final and a semifinal before travelling potentially for the final.

It also means two New Zealand sides will likely have to play their quarter-finals in South Africa next week against the Stormers and Lions.
