Super Rugby final ticket scalpers swoop in, $200 tickets already online

Scalpers are already cashing in on the rush for tickets to this weekend's Super Rugby final.

Wellington's Westpac Stadium will be full to brimming for Saturday's showdown between the Hurricanes and the Lions as tickets were snapped up today quicker than a TJ Perenara offload.

Now those keen to make a quick buck from diehard rugby fans who missed out are auctioning their tickets on Trade Me for a profit.

One pair of "silver" tickets, which would have cost $120 at most, has already reached $200.

Even single tickets for diehard rugby fans who don't mind sitting alone are attracting bids for double their original value.

According to its website, Westpac Stadium seats 34,500 when full for a rugby match.

Westpac Stadium chief executive Shane Harmon urged fans buying tickets from scalpers to be wary. He said last year a number of people bought tickets from sites like Trade Me but were turned away at the gate, because the passes were cancelled.

"I think it's very unfortunate," Harmon said of scalping.

"We don't believe the numbers will be huge. We believe the vast majority of tickets will end up in the hands of people they want to."

The Hurricanes had kept prices affordable, he said.

"We do frown on anyone trying to take advantage of that."

Harmon said hosting another sold-out final was a privilege for the stadium.
